CRIME LINE

Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

NORFOLK

On Friday, Sept. 2, just before 6 a.m., police were called to the 1000 block of Oaklawn Avenue, where they found the body of Errol G. Ward, 39, who is also known as ``Lucky.''

Ward, of the 1600 block of Fairfax Drive in Virginia Beach, had been shot to death.

Police believe Ward may have been shot at a different location and his body dumped where it was found.

PORTSMOUTH

On Dec. 12, 1993, police were called to the 900 block of Garfield Street, where officers found two men slumped over in the front seat of a vehicle.

The victims were identified as Mark Smith, 29, of Chesapeake and Walter Dunn, 28, of Portsmouth. Each man been shot in the head.

Investigators are still unsure why these men were killed and believe that the suspect may have been in the back seat of the two-door vehicle when the victims were shot.

VIRGINIA BEACH

On Monday, Sept. 19, about 5:30 p.m., a 19-year-old man was washing his truck at the American Classic Self-Service car wash in the 900 block of Newtown Road at Broad Meadows Boulevard.

A man with a handgun came up behind him and demanded money. The man washing his car turned around and was shot once in the face.

The gunman is described as black, in his 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 175 pounds with a small mustache. He was wearing a blue baseball hat with a blue bandanna underneath.

Police now have photographs of a man believed responsible for the theft of money from drink machines.

Several thefts have been reported in Virginia Beach and other Hampton Roads cities during the past several months.

The man uses a stolen key to get into the machines.

Pictures were taken by a security camera as the man removed money from the machines.

The suspect is described as black, in his 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build and a mustache and goatee.

HAMPTON

On Sept. 24, during the late evening, someone broke into the Peninsula gun works located at 2511 W. Mercury Blvd.

Entry was gained by cutting a hole in the roof. Once inside, the thieves stole 31 handguns ranging from .380 caliber automatics to .44 caliber pistols.

Police have no suspects and none of the handguns have been recovered at this time.

CHESAPEAKE

On Friday, Sept. 16, at around 3:30 a.m., police found Robert Brown, 20, shot several times in the chest on the parking lot of Cascade Boulevard's playground in South Norfolk.

Detectives know Brown was alive at 2:30 a.m., but they need to know where he was between 2:45 and 3:30 that morning.

A witness saw Brown get into a vehicle on Vernon Drive near Berkley Avenue at around 2:45 a.m. with a black female driver and three black male occupants. ILLUSTRATION: Photos

Ward
