If a white man had made the statements Norfolk Councilman Herbert Collins made about public-housing residents (Metro news, Sept. 27), he would have been called racist. We all know there are racists, but some statements are true no matter who makes them.
Let all of the people who say Collins is out of touch with blacks walk through any of those projects at night.
Taxis won't go in the projects at night. Pizza people won't deliver in the projects. That should tell Collins' critics something.
The truth is one thing. ``Knowing'' the truth is something else again.
Collins told the truth, and as a black man I know that.
