R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. is introducing a new version of its Salem brand using paper that can reduce stale odors.
``Smokers were asked, other than price, if we can change something about our product what would they change,'' RJR spokeswoman DeeDee Whitt said. ``They said they would change it to get rid of the lingering stale smell.
A sample magazine advertisement for the new product, which will be called Salem Preferred, addresses the issue directly:
``I love what you're not wearing,'' it proclaims, saying Salem Preferred has a ``less lingering stale smell.'' It lists four problem areas: hair, clothes, home and car.
Salem Preferred will be introduced later this month in stores on military bases, Whitt said. She did not know when they will be available to the general public by CNB
