Elmer Wallace Britton, 83, of Greensboro, died Oct. 11, 1994.
A lifelong resident of Greensboro, he was a native of Hickory, Va., and a graduate of Greensboro (now Grimsley) High School and Kings Business College. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy in the European and North African theaters. He worked for the former Greensboro Daily News. He was owner of Britton's Grocery on McCullock and Andrews streets and had worked for Curtis Packing Company. Mr. Britton was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Legion, Modern Woodmen of America and the Oddfellows Lodge. He was predecesased by his wife of 41 years, Frances Gilbert Britton.
Survivors include four children, Barbara Britton, Charles Britton, Laura Michael and Carol Diehl; two sons-in-law, Michael Michael and Rick Diehl; four grandchildren, Jennifer Michael, Travis, Jason and Shannon Diehl; and one brother, Reynolds Britton of Chesapeake.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Lutheran Church with interment in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to First Lutheran Church, 3600 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27410.
