Masie Johnston Bottoms Holbrook, 88, died Monday, Oct. 10, 1994, in Virginia Beach.
Mrs. Holbrook was born in Loris, S.C., and was a resident of Norfolk for 60 years before moving to Virginia Beach. She was the widow of Lawrence L. Holbrook. She was a welder in the Naval Shipyard during World War II and was a former beautician and owner of Ocean Air Beauty Shop.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Francis Hoosack and a son, Charles L. Bottoms, who died in World War II. She is survived by a beloved daughter, Betty Joanne Bottoms McCandless and a son-in-law, Bill McCandless of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Carl Hoosack and Charles Hoosack, both of Norfolk, Donna Ittner of Virginia Beach, and Claudia Lacey of Marietta, Ga.; eight great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Susie.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, by the Rev. Joseph French. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and at other times at 1221 North Lakeside Drive, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Institute of Health.
