A 22-month-old child was killed Tuesday morning after the car her parents were driving veered off the road and overturned.
Police are investigating the accident.
Mekia Eternity Lowmack, born Dec. 22, 1992, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Her parents, L.V. Elgin Lowmack Jr., 26, and Michelle Ann Lowmack, 29, both of the 7700 block of Halprin Drive, Norfolk, were airlifted to Portsmouth Naval Hospital, where they were treated and released.
Police said the vehicle, a four-door Pontiac rental car from Florida, veered off of South Quay Road for an unknown reason at 7:37 a.m. Tuesday.
The car then crossed the median and overturned about eight-tenths of a mile from South Holy Neck Road. The parents told police that they were wearing seat belts and that the child was in a child's seat.
