RECUPERATION OVER, TURTLES RETURN TO SEA

ILLUSTRATION: Color photo

MORT FRYMAN/Staff

A Kemp's ridley sea turtle, one of two turtles set free Tuesday at

Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, crawls toward the surf of the

Atlantic Ocean. The turtle, which is an endangered species, was

fitted with a satellite transmitter to track her movements. She had

been caught in fishing nets twice last year. The other turtle

released was a loggerhead, a threatened species. It had been

recuperating at the Baltimore Aquarium since last October, when it

was found ill and floating in Rudee Inlet.
