Harry S. Dent, a former adviser to three presidents, will lead a four-day revival effort later this month at Nansemond River Baptist Church.
The revival will be Sunday through Wednesday, Oct. 23-26.
Before 1981, Dent served in the administrations of three U.S. presidents: Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and George Bush. From 1955 to 1965, he was chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond, R-S.C., and was special counsel to President Nixon during his first term.
Dent is credited with suggesting the ``Southern strategy'' that led to Nixon's first-term election victory.
Since 1981 when Dent closed his law practice, he has been in full-time ministry as a Christian layman. He served as director of The Billy Graham Lay Center and chairman of the 1987 South Carolina Billy Graham Crusade.
Today, Dent and his wife, Betty, operate a Christian organization from the back porch of their home in Columbia, S.C. This program, ``Laity: Alive and Serving,'' promotes renewal within the local church. The Dents' ministry has reached throughout the United States and overseas and into more than 800 churches. They also have led renewal work in Korea, Australia, Holland, England and Russia and have done extensive work in Romania.
Dent is a graduate of Presbyterian College, George Washington University, Georgetown University and The Columbia Graduate School of Bible and Missions. He has honorary degrees from Presbyterian College and Charleston Southern University. He is a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C., and is a trustee of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
For additional information about renewal services with Harry Dent, call the Nansemond River church office at 484-3423. The church is at 2896 Bridge Road, at Bennetts Pasture Road in north Suffolk.
