Gertha L. ``Gert'' Griffin, 65, of the 3400 block of Downes St., died Oct. 9, 1994, in her home.
Mrs. Griffin was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., and was retired as a para-professional with the Portsmouth School System after 18 years. She was a member of New Testament Church in Portsmouth, the Gospel Choir, Beautification Club, and was a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Christian Outreach Bible Study Group and the National, Virginia and local education associations.
Survivors include her husband, Winfred S. Griffin; a daughter, Malvinia M. Mutts of Hampton; four sons, Winfred R. Griffin, Alexander E. Griffin, William L. Griffin and Waverly L. Griffin, all of Portsmouth; four sisters, Evelyn M. Moore, Iris P. Edwards, Evola L. Pope, all of Portsmouth, and Cora B. Diggs of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, William Henry Carroll Jr. of Elizabeth City; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; six brothers-in-law; and nine sisters-in-law.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in New Testament Church by Elder C.H. Bowens II. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin at noon today in Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church prior to the funeral service. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
