SAY NO TO ROBB

Poor Charles Robb. Having no issues on which to base his campaign, he must resort to character assassination to heat up what is, by all accounts, a lackluster effort. The problem is, all he's got to work with are the same old things the media have been saying for eight years now about Oliver North (yawn, we've heard all this before). If Ollie should finally get exasperated by all this, it's no surprise. The only surprise is how he held it in so long.

Before the last days of the campaign get going, and the hysteria heats up in the media at the thought of a Republican actually being elected, let's cut to the chase:

Fact: Charles Robb has voted for every one of the measures that Bill Clinton has put before the Senate. This is not a Republican lie but a matter of public record. Only the most naive still refuse to acknowledge that Clinton is trying to turn this democracy into a socialist state. Oliver North will not vote with Bill Clinton to turn this country into a socialist state.

A vote for Charles Robb is a vote to turn this country socialist, with the loss of the freedoms we enjoy. Very few people realize fully what that would mean. Think of China and Russia, before the fall.

A vote for Oliver North is a vote to retain the personal freedoms we own as Americans, as listed in the Constitution, a document Clinton and his cronies have little use for. This is also a matter of public record.

Maybe a lot of people don't like Oliver North. But they had better hold their noses and vote Republican, or the next thing they know, the ATF will be kicking in their door and terrorizing their family, killing their pets and stealing their money. It's already started to happen in Clinton's Amerika. Stop it before it gets any worse.

LYNN PHILLIPS

Ollie North did not make or create any policy in regard to Central America. North did not have the authority, rank or power to make foreign policy. North followed orders.

Ollie North served in Vietnam, a war that was initiated by Democratic presidents. North risked his life for any fellow soldiers' race, rank or religion. The medals North was awarded for serving in Vietnam attest to his valor. The victim on the Achilles Lauro was an elderly Jewish man.

Robb was governor of Virginia and held a position of trust and honor. Robb put his own lustful pleasures above being loyal to Linda. He disgraced his office.

Ollie North has been loyal to his country, his family and his president. He deserves our vote on Nov. 8.

VIRGINIA MURPHY

Norfolk, Oct. 10, 1994

If Vice President Al Gore considers Oliver North's comments on the ``hollow military'' to be ``giving aid and comfort to a foreign dictator,'' what would he consider protesting against the United States while in England, and going to Moscow during the height of the Cold War? Treason maybe?
