ELIZABETH CITY
FROM NO THEATERS TO TWO THEATERS: The city has lost and regained both of its movie theaters in less than a year.
The downtown Carolina Theatre reopened for business Friday under new management after being closed for several months, jumping the gun on the more publicized return of the Gateway Twin, which closed in June.
The Carolina, which employees said was under renovation for a week, began its new run with the film ``Forrest Gump'' at $4 a seat for adults, $2.50 for children and matinees.
Gateway Twin, which new owner Gilmore Entertainment Corp. plans to unveil with redone facilities within two weeks, had intended to charge $2 for ``all seats, all times, all ages,'' according to co-owner Howard Gainey.
But the Carolina's higher prices will enable it to get movies sooner, and Gainey said he will decide this weekend whether to stick with Gateway's original price plans or go head-to-head with first-run films and $4 tickets.
``I think people would wait'' to see movies at lower prices, Gainey said Friday.
