While I have never met Guy Friddell, I have known him well through his eloquent writing. I have shared Christmases with his family, raced with him and the Lab on the beach with the wind in my hair, and chuckled at the mischievous grandkids.
And I have known ``Gin.'' His columns are truly hymns to her grace, for always evident in every perfectly worded phrase is his love for his wife. What a marvelous person she must have been!
When I read her obituary recently, I grieved as if I had lost a dear friend. Having come to admire her through her husband's eyes, I wasn't surprised to read of her many fine accomplishments. No wonder he was so very proud of her.
The love story of Guy and Gin has truly been a blessing, for no romantic novel has better expressed the joy of two people devoted to each other for a lifetime.
The lyrics to a beautiful old song say, ``Can I help but rejoice that a love such as ours came to be?'' I, too, rejoice that Guy Friddell honored his readers by sharing with us his beloved Gin. We are all the more blessed for it.
