The people of the United States have been let down by their government.
In 1980, the Republicans were given the majority of power. During the next 12 years our country indulged in a spending spree that caused the national debt to rise to more than a trillion dollars. In 1992 this debt, and the inability of Congress to do anything about it, became such a concerns that the Democrats were swept into power on a tide of voter discontent.
Now, two years later the Democrats prove to be a party divided and therefore unable to stick together well enough to really break the gridlock that is choking this great nation.
I believe voters are currently disgusted with both parties (as am I). The selection of independent candidates is not a viable solution. They would have even less cohesion or political purpose than the Democrats have shown. Therefore, this option would not bring us an improvement in Congress.
I will not pretend to have a solution to this problem, only this letter to possibly let our governing body know that average Americans are aware of its performance and that we are looking for a viable alternative.
