ODU RIPS RICHMOND AS NEISS NETS 3 GOALS

NORFOLK - Karen Neiss scored a hat trick and Kim Decker recorded three saves for her second shutout in two days as Old Dominion's field hockey team routed Richmond, 9-0, at Foreman Field.

The victory raised top-ranked Old Dominion's record to 12-3-1, 4-2 in the CAA. Richmond is 4-9, 1-3-0.

The Lady Monarchs scored 9:26 into the game as Neiss and Sam Salvia set up Sue Callahan off a penalty corner. Neiss scored three of ODU's next four goals as Old Dominion tallied three times in the first half and six in the second.

Callahan and Danielle Chellew had two goals apiece for ODU.

The Lady Monarchs will travel to Penn State for a game at 1 p.m. Saturday.

W&M WINS: Amy Umbach had three goals and an assist to lead William and Mary (5-10) past Ursinus, 6-0, for its third win in a row.

LADY MARLINS LOSE: Despite 26 saves by Bobbi Losee, Virginia Wesleyan (6-4) fell, 2-0, to Catholic University. Soccer

CHARLOTTESVILLE - Mike Fisher scored on a 22-yard shot in the 25th minute to give Virginia a 1-0 victory over Princeton in the final game of the Lanzera/Holiday Inn Classic at Kloeckner Stadium.

The Cavaliers (12-2) claimed the team championship with a pair of victories, including a 2-0 win over Dartmouth on Saturday.

Fisher and Maryland's Tod Herskovitz were tourney co-MVPs.

LADY MONARCHS FALL: Kristie Hanke scored with 12 minutes remaining to give Temple a 2-1 victory over Old Dominion in Norfolk. Kelley Martin scored for ODU, which fell to 4-8-1. The Lady Monarchs will play LaSalle at 4 p.m. Friday in Philadelphia.

DALY WINS 100TH: Natalie Neaton scored both goals as William and Mary (11-3, 3-0 CAA) edged visiting George Mason, 2-1, giving coach John Daly his 100th career victory.

UNC TOPS U.VA.: Susannah Schott scored the game-winner with 6:02 left as fourth-ranked North Carolina rallied to edge No. 18 Virginia, 3-2, in Charlottesville. by CNB
