Two College Park Shopping Center store clerks were tied up and robbed Sunday afternoon by two men who escaped with money and a clerk's diamond ring, police said Monday.
Police spokesman Mike Carey said the robbery happened about 12:30 p.m. at the A&N store in the shopping center on Auburn Drive. Carey said the suspects told the female clerks they had a gun, and then used socks from the store to tie them up. The clerks were left face-down on the floor in a rear store room.
The suspects took money from the store and a diamond-cluster ring from one of the clerks.
The clerks - a 21-year-old Chesapeake woman and a 17-year-old Virginia Beach girl - were not hurt. Police declined to identify the clerks because the suspects haven't been caught. Customers who came into the store after the robbery freed the clerks.
Carey said detectives are looking for two suspects, described as clean-shaven, dark-complexioned black men in their late 20s or early 30s.
The first suspect is around 6 feet tall and weighs about 180 pounds. He was wearing a black or burgundy hat, a black windbreaker and black jeans.
The second suspect is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. He was wearing gold-rimmed glasses, a dark hat, a denim jacket with a tan-colored fur lining, and dark pants.
