A baby sitter who is believed to have fatally hit an infant girl Sunday night was arrested and charged with first-degree murder Monday.
Thaddeus E. Wilson, 31, of 810 Brighton Road in Newport News was arrested shortly after 7 p.m., said Bill Roth, spokesman for the Newport News Police Department.
Wilson was baby-sitting 8-month-old Dessiree Barnes of the 5600 block of Marshall Ave. about 6 p.m. Monday when paramedics were called to the residence with a report that an infant was not breathing.
The medical examiner on Monday determined Dessiree died of internal injuries.
