Say goodbye to the last of its kind. The Halifax Hotel fell to the
effects of 44 years of northeasters, an occasional hurricane, the
sand-coated feet of countless guests and the granddaddy of them all
- economics. Rising in its place will be an 11-story, 139-room
Holiday Inn Surfside, with construction scheduled to be completed in
June 1995. The new building will have 18 suites, an indoor pool and
a restaurant that may offer California-style cuisine. Bruce Hedlund,
left, and Jim Collins, employees of W.M. Jordan Construction Co.,
watch as an excavator carries out the demolishment last Friday at
26th Street and Atlantic Avenue.
