THURMAN S. BARNES

Thurman Stacy Barnes, 79, of the 2300 block of E. Bugle Drive, a retired crane operator, died Oct. 18, 1994, in his residence.

Mr. Barnes was a native of Johnston County, N.C., and was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and Crestar Bank. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Portsmouth, Churchland Masonic Lodge (NU)276, Portsmouth Moose Lodge (NU)898, U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, I.B.E.W. Business Agent, and past member of the Chesapeake Taxpayers Association.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Rae Barnes; a daughter, Kathy Barnes Paton of Chesapeake; two sons, Marvin G. Barnes of Virginia Beach and Stacy R. Barnes of Chesapeake; a brother, Marion ``Buddy'' Barnes of Goldsboro, N.C.; and six grandchildren, Erin Paton, Kelsey Paton, M. Grey Barnes, Rachel R. Barnes, Shannon M. Culpepper and Suzanne Morgan.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Joseph G. Savinsky. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew's United Methodist Church.
