Sara Lee Hobbs Smith, 81, of the 300 block of Pembroke Circle, died Monday evening in Chowan Hospital following a lengthy illness.
A native of Perquimans County, Mrs. Smith was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the D.A.R. She was a daughter of the late Charles Norman and Sarah Elizabeth Relfe Hobbs and the wife of the late Robert Bland Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Sara Relfe Kessinger of Clearwater, Fla.; a son, Robert Bland Smith Jr. of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Elizabeth Relfe Hobbs Edwards of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two half sisters, Nell Hobbs Gay of Seaboard, N.C., and Precious Hobbs Ludwig of New York; and six grandchildren, Sarah Bland Smith of New York, Elizabeth DeVere Smith of Richmond, Winthrop Bembury Bland Smith of Washington, D.C., Arthur Gan Kessinger of Clearwater, Fla., Rebecca Relfe Kessinger of Atlanta and James Bland Kessinger of Clearwater.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Russell Johnson. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Williford-Barham Funeral Home, Edenton, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Albemarle Mental Health Center at P.O.
