A Kempsville High School geography teacher was arrested Tuesday and charged with asking a 16-year-old female student to pose for nude photographs, police said.
Thomas Clouser, 35, of the 1900 block of Stillwood Lane, was charged about 8:30 p.m. with one count of custodial indecent liberties with a child, police spokesman Mike Carey said.
Carey said Clouser made the suggestion to the 11th-grade student after asking her to talk with him after class.
``He engaged the student in a conversation which led to inappropriate sexual suggestions on his part,'' Carey said. ``At one point, he asked the student to pose in the nude and be photographed.''
Carey said the student told her mother, who met with the school's principal. The principal called social services investigators, who called police.
A detective questioned Clouser at the school and then took him to police headquarters, where he was arrested, Carey said.
Late Tuesday, Clouser was still in jail on $5,000 bail.
School officials could not be contacted late Tuesday. Teachers accused of such a crime usually are suspended until the outcome of the trial.
