TRAFFIC UP AT AIRPORT

Passenger traffic at Norfolk International Airport surged 26.7 percent in September compared with a year ago, the airport announced. Last month 298,523 passengers passed through the airport, up from 228,437 in September 1993. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, passenger activity leaped 37.5 percent to 2.6 million from 1.9 million. Much of the increase in activity can be attributed to the discount air fares many airlines have been offering. The airport also reported a 30.3 percent increase in cargo traffic for August. The airport handled 2,663 tons of cargo in August, up from 2,042 tons a year ago. by CNB
