W. Edwin Snellings Jr., 89 years old, of 1 Harbor Court, died Monday in his home.
He was born in Norfolk in 1905 and resided there until recent months. As a young man, he and his family operated Snellings Pharmacy in downtown Norfolk. Ed retired after 27 years in the Treasurer's Office for the City of Norfolk. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served as treasurer for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Bruce H. Snellings; his son, William Moran Snellings and daughter-in-law, Courtnay Meade Snellings of Connecticut; three stepchildren, Wynette McPherson of Chesapeake, Beverly Perry of Hampton and Ron Hicks of Midlothian, Va.; three grandchildren, Lorien, Brittany and Quinn; five stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a niece, Jane Boyd Lee of Atlanta.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Norfolk on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Parrish House following the service.
The family has requested that donations be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Paul's Church in lieu of sending flowers.
