Carrying a variety of convenience food items, the store will be open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
CLOSING & OPENING
The Real Bread Company at Prison Square is closed but the space already has a new tenant.
The Virginia Beach-based bread baker, which expanded in several cities last year, is downsizing its operation.
But Charles Greenhood, who owns Brutti's cafe in the same complex, said he will open Olde Towne Confections no later than Oct. 28.
Greenhood said the new shop will sell bread baked fresh daily as well as other baked goods, desserts and ice cream.
The space opens onto the outdoor cafe area at Prison Square.
``By opening the shop in this area, we'll be able to improve Brutti's service to the outside tables,'' Greenhood said. ``We'll set up a coffee and tea bar in the new shop.''
It will feature special ice cream and yogurt desserts as well as all of the specialty coffees sold at Brutti's.
OFFICIALLY OPEN
The River Pointe residential development at West Norfolk is officially open.
Although construction has been under way for several years on the site, city officials and developers had a ``grand opening'' celebration Oct. 13.
Among the participants were Frank Spadea and Vince Napolitano of Virginia Beach, principals in River Pointe Associates, and Mayor Gloria Webb.
Recently City Council rezoned property on the site for construction of condos in lieu of garden apartments.
The city still owns about $2 million worth of vacant land adjacent to the residential area that it expects to develop as a planned office park. by CNB
