Victoria Lynn Crawford, 17, and a member of Girl Scout Troop 811 of the Meadowlark Service Unit, has received Girl Scouting's highest honor, the Gold Award.
A resident of Carolanne Farm, Crawford has been in Scouting 11 years and has earned the proficiency badge, service training bar, career exploration pin, Cadette silver award, interest project patch, Cadette and senior leadership award, and the Cadette and senior challenge.
She has been a counselor in training part I and II, a camp counselor at Camp Skimino and assisted Cadette Troop 263.
Her Gold Award was working with residents at Sentara Nursing Center in Norfolk to design and create two canvas paintings, which are on display in the activity rooms. She began working with residents of the center three years ago when she and other members of her former Girl Scout troop began Christmas caroling there.
The daughter of Albert and Linda Crawford, she is a graduate of Kempsville High School, where she earned an advanced studies diploma and perfect attendance award from 1991 through 1994. She is a freshman at Old Dominion University, where she is studying pre-pharmacy. She enjoys volleyball and dance and is a licensed amateur radio operator. She is a member of Kempsville Baptist Church.
