HONORS AND AWARDS

David Curfman of Chesapeake has been chosen as the Engineer of the Year for the Atlantic Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Norfolk where he works as a criteria manager.

A registered professional engineer, Curfman earned a bachelor's in civil engineering from Virginia Tech in 1983 and his master's degree in structural and coastal engineering from Old Dominion University in 1993.

His engineering expertise is in the area of harbors and coastal engineering. He developed a more precise method for determining acceptable dredge depth for Navy ships. Curfman managed the integration of climatology and ship motion studies on a project at the David Taylor Model Basin and incorporated the technology in a study for aircraft carriers in San Diego.

U.S. Rep. Norman Sisisky of the Fourth Congressional District was guest of honor recently at a breakfast meeting of the Chesapeake Democratic Women. The event was attended by Mayor William E. Ward, Commissioner of the Revenue Ray A. Connor, Circuit Court Clerk Lillie M. Hart, Chesapeake Sheriff John R. Newhart and City Councilman John W. Butt. MEMO: Won an award or scholarship?
