EARL LOUIS MCCRACKEN

Earl Louis McCracken, 66, USN (Ret.), passed away Oct. 20, 1994, at his home following a tough six month battle with lung cancer.

Mr. McCracken moved to Ocala from Virginia Beach in 1986. In the proud tradition of the McCracken Family, he served his country for 39 years. He retired from the Navy, serving 20 years in the amphibious forces. He served in the occupation forces in the European and Asiatic theaters during World War II, the Korean War, and completed his Navy service as chief engineer on the U.S. Navy Assault Craft 1489. Following his Navy service, Mr. McCracken served his country another 19 years in civil service. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason in Lynnhaven Lodge (NU)0220, Virginia Beach and member of First United Methodist Church in Ocala.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy E. McCracken; sons, Earl L. McCracken Jr. of Panama City, Fla. and John P. McCracken of Orlando, Fla.; daughter, Karen S. McCracken of Clearwater, Fla.; stepdaughters, Jeannie Martin and Sheri Miller of Ocala, Cindy Yapp of Grayslake, Ill.; stepson, Steven Wafle of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Maryhelen Burke of Barnesville, Ohio; brothers, Norman Eugene McCracken of Tampa, Fla. and Ronald McCracken of Jacksonville, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his children's mother, Flora Mae McCracken and his brother, Emmett John McCracken.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Bruce Ocala Funeral Home, East Chapel, where services will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday by the Rev. Tom Bridges. Mr. McCracken will be laid to rest with his fellow patriots in the Florida National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Monday.
