A convicted sex offender wanted for recent alleged crimes against two Virginia Beach high school girls was arrested in Albemarle County on Thursday, ending a search for a man with many faces.
Kenneth W. Glover, 31, changed his appearance as often as his address. Detective Robert Manzione distributed seven photographs of the suspect before Glover was apprehended about 1 p.m. at a home belonging to his parents.
In some of the photos, Glover has a bushy beard and straight hair parted in the middle. In others, his beard is trimmed and his hair is long and wavy.
Sometimes Glover wore only a mustache, police said. Sometimes he wore tinted glasses.
And, during his many transformations, Glover has used at least eight addresses.
When he was arrested, he denied his identity, Virginia Beach police spokesman Mike Carey said.
``It makes it very difficult when you don't know what his appearance will be,'' Manzione said. ``What photograph do you give people to look at?''
On Tuesday, a man drove up to a 16-year-old Princess Anne High School student shortly before 7 a.m. as she walked to class, Carey said. The man told the student he had a gun and ordered her to get into his dark blue sedan, Carey said.
The girl ran away and later told police the man was nude from the waist down.
On Oct. 14, Carey said, a man attacked a 15-year-old Green Run High School student who was walking to her bus stop. He grabbed the girl from behind, pulled her to the ground and tried to stuff a cloth into her mouth, Carey said. As the man dragged the girl toward some shrubs, she fought back and freed herself.
Glover was also wanted in Virginia Beach on charges of exposing himself at least two other times since August, Carey said.
Glover's history of similar crimes is extensive.
In Henrico County, Glover was arrested at least four times since 1989 on charges of exposing himself. He also was arrestedthere on charges of stalking, trespassing and grand larceny. In those cases he was found guilty, pleaded guilty or is awaiting trial.
After each arrest, he was released on relatively low bail, court records show.
Thursday, Virginia Beach detectives asked Albemarle authorities to check out an address, which led to Glover's arrest, Manzione said.
A concern in the investigation of sex crimes, he said, is that the severity of the cases may escalate. Many violent sex offenders begin by exposing themselves.
Manzione said Glover could be in the Virginia Beach jail as early as today. In the incidents involving the two high school girls, he faces two counts of felony exposure, one count of abduction, one count of attempted abduction, and one count of using a firearm during a felony.
He also faces charges for the earlier alleged exposures on Aug. 3 and Sept. 6, Carey said.
If a suspect has at least two previous exposure convictions, he can be charged with felony exposure for ensuing arrests. ILLUSTRATION: Graphic
