MAN FOUND DEAD

Luke Douglas Sellers, a former assistant conductor of the The Virginia Symphony from 1990 to June, was found dead Wednesday in his car, police said.

Sellers, 33, was found at 8 a.m. in the 1400 block of Baker Road. Police said Thursday he had apparently taken his own life by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Sellers, a Louisiana native, had been living in New York City since June.

Sellers made his local debut in a Virginia Symphony Pops concert with Carol Lawrence and Skitch Henderson at Chrysler Hall, where he conducted George Gershwin's ``An American in Paris.''

During his stint with The Virginia Symphony, Sellers conducted children's concerts and outdoor and touring performances. He also conducted several ballets with local companies and toured briefly with the Joffrey Ballet.

Sellers came to Hampton Roads from Rice University in Houston, where he was music director and conductor of the school's symphony orchestra. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
