Leading up to the Nov. 8 Senate and congressional elections, The

Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star are planning stories and

packages aimed at helping voters understand the candidates'

positions on a range of issues:

Monday-Wednesday, Oct. 24-26: In-depth profiles of the three U.S.

Senate candidates with comprehensive charts on where they stand on

the issues.

Sunday, Nov. 6: A Commentary section issues package on the three

Senate candidates.

For Tuesday, Nov. 8, Election Day: A one-page, pullout Voters

Guide with digests on the races and the candidates, descriptions of

the ballot, and information on how to vote.

Also coming: The four candidates in Virginia's 2nd and 4th

congressional districts on the issues in the Commentary section.

Democratic incumbents Owen Pickett and Norman Sisisky, and

Republican challengers Jim Chapman and George Sweet, have been asked

for their views on spending, taxes, foreign affairs, abortion,

campaign reform, health care, crime, guns and other topics.
