STATE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT SUPPORTS ANOTHER AREA AIRPORT

A study of airport capacity in the Richmond-Tidewater region will likely find the area can support a major international airport by 2030, the Virginia transportation secretary told the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission. Robert E. Martinez, the secretary, said the study will be completed later this year and may recommend moving forward with a site selection for the new airport. Many local airport officials have said they favor expanding existing airports rather than building a regional superport. by CNB
