Carl Douglas Matthias, 80, of the 1400 block of W. Little Creek Road, a retired civil engineer, died Oct. 22, 1994, in his residence.
Mr. Matthias was born in Glidden, Wis. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after more than 30 years and was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a member of Tabernacle Church, Pioneer Kiwanis Club and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Burrell Matthias; two daughters, Ruth Ann Davis of Roanoke and Margo Brown of South Orange, N.J.; two sons, Douglas E. Matthias of Charlotte, N.C., and Dennis H. Matthias of Ellicott City, Md.; and three grandchildren, Stephen, Luke and Sarah.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Tabernacle Church of Norfolk by the Rev. Mike Latsko. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Miracle 2000 of Tabernacle Church.
