Three hurrahs for the courageous stand Bishop Walter F. Sullivan has taken in the defense of homosexuals and lesbians, while at the same time refusing to condone their practice any more than he would approve of immoral heterosexual acts (news, Oct. 4).
One is reminded that Jesus himself once came to the rescue of the woman caught in adultery. She, too, was condemned by scriptural law, and was about to be put to death by some of the God-professing citizenry of her time. What do some Christians think the Son of Man would do today, editorially, if he came across a gang of thugs about to assault a known homosexual? Join in the stoning?
Isn't it astounding that there can be any reasonable doubt about whose side God is on presently, or that people criticize Bishop Sullivan for his position on the issue of gay rights?
