TEACHER CHARGED WITH FONDLING STUDENT

Police on Monday said a middle-school teacher was charged last week with fondling a 14-year-old student during what was supposed to be a make-up physical-education session.

Police spokesman Tony Torres identified the teacher as Gary S. Obenour, 30, of the 900 block of Arcadia Road. Torres said the teacher works at Great Bridge Middle School.

Torres said Obenour and the female student met near the school Oct. 8 because the student had missed some physical-education work. Then, Torres said, Obenour proposed sex and fondled the student.

Torres said the student resisted and left.

Obenour has been charged with taking indecent liberties with a minor and aggravated sexual battery.
