An Elizabeth City man was in serious condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital on Monday after a weekend shooting near Sheep-Harney Elementary School.
Damon S. Byrd, 20, was shot three times with a handgun after an apparent argument with his assailant about 5 p.m. Sunday, Elizabeth City Police Capt. W.O. Leary said.
Byrd, wounded in his neck and right buttock, was airlifted to Sentara, officials said.
``There were at least 40 people at the scene,'' Leary said Monday. ``No one has come forward to give any information.''
Police have asked anyone with knowledge of the shooting to call Leary at the Police Department or call the crime line at (919) 335-5555.
