GRANT FOR YOUTH ACTIVITIES

The Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority is one of three Virginia public housing authorities to receive a grant to fund youth activities.

Portsmouth received $38,255 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to support its Partners in Fun Program, an initiative to enhance the city's effort to combat drugs.

The YMCA of South Hampton Roads, in conjunction with Partners in Fun, will now be able to sponsor Night Hawk Basketball, Community Family Nights and the Summer Day Camp and Summer Learn-To-Swim projects.

Grants awarded to the state of Virginia totaled $288,255. The funding is part of a nationwide program that distributed grants to 113 public housing authorities. by CNB
