Linwood F. Perkins, Sr., 86, died Oct. 25, 1994, in Norfolk.
Mr. Perkins was born in Norfolk, was chairman emeritus of The Henry Walke Co. and member of The Christadelphian Church. He attended the graduate school of business administration of Harvard University and was a successful businessman, active in leadership roles in numerous business, civic and charitable causes. He was past president of Southern Industrial Distributors Association; member of Norfolk City Council from 1957-1970 serving as vice mayor for eight years; past co-chairman and past recipient of the brotherhood citation of the National Conference of Christians and Jews; board member since 1974 and past president of AAA of Tidewater, Virginia; Salvation Army board member since 1968 and became a life member in 1987. The great building expansion of the 1970s was accomplished under his leadership.
Survivors include his wife, Eveleen D. Perkins; a son, Linwood F. Perkins, Jr. of Norfolk; a brother, Gordon C. Perkins of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Gwen P. Martin of Williamsburg, Va., and John B. Perkins of Norfolk; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by Anthony Giordano. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army of Norfolk. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
