The Halloween howling comes to a high pitch this weekend as the fright night fast approaches.
There's plenty of ghostly goings-on and you'll need not search very far for those haunted hayrides, mansions and forests.
Tonight Portsmouth there's the Olde Towne Ghost Walk and on Saturday ``A Very Special Halloween'' is planned for children with special needs.
In Norfolk tonight its the 2nd Annual Boo Bash featuring fun at 11 restaurants. On Saturday and Sunday you'll find a haunted history program at The Ghosts of Fort Norfolk.
Virginia Beach offers up a host of haunted houses and such and there's a Monster Madness Celebration Saturday at the Virginia Marine Science Museum.
Also on Saturday you'll find a Fall Festival and Haunted Walk in Suffolk and a Halloween Bash with a science fiction theme over at the Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton.
Many area libraries, recreation centers and shopping malls are offering their own haunted happenings - so check around. Here's a list to get you started.
2nd Annual Boo Bash. 5:30 to 11:30 tonight at 11 Norfolk restaurants. Judging at each location from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Costume entries must register at Waterside food court between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. Free trolley runs continuously between restaurants. Restaurants will feature their own spookey theme, entertainment and contests. For more information, 623-1757.
Olde Towne Ghost Walk. Groups leave at 5 minute intervals from 6:30 to 10:30 tonight. Guided tour begins in the cemetery of Trinity Episcopal Church at High and Court streets, Portsmouth. A limited number of tickets available at Trinity Church on the evening of the Ghost Walk; however, it is recommended that tickets be purchased in advance. Tickets: $4. 399-5487 or 393-3750.
Norfolk Jaycees Chamber of Horrors. Come visit the eerie Poltergeist room, the electrifying Mad Scientist Laboratory and more from 6 to 11 tonight through Monday (except Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m.). The Vietnam Vets Haunted Forest. Tram ride past 27 scenes from 7 to 10 tonight and Saturday and 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday at Norfolk Botanical Garden. Admission: $4.50. 498-2541.

The Ghosts of Fort Norfolk. A living history program highlighting the years 1812 to 1994 from 10 a.m. to 4 and 6 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Historic Fort Norfolk, Front Street at the south end of Colley Avenue.
