CITY COUNCIL IT'S THEIR AGENDA

Yet again, most of the members of City Council have affirmed their conviction that their own ideas and opinions are more important than those of ordinary citizens.

Council member Alan P. Krasnoff gave them another opportunity Tuesday to return to the people of the Chesapeake the rights they have enjoyed under previous councils to participate fully in their government. They refused.

The position of each council member is clear and on the record.

Those who favor putting the people first are Dr. Krasnoff, Mayor William E. Ward and Council member John W. Butt.

Those who favor putting the people last are Vice Mayor Arthur L. Dwyer and Council members Robert T. Nance Jr., Peter P. Duda, John E. Allen, John M. de Triquet and W. Joe Newman.

By virtue of the offices they hold, they have the power to decide who they will listen to and when, who they will ignore, who they will push aside. They have made their decisions.

The good people who believe that they are wrong - not only in their actions, but in their fundamental attitudes toward the ideal of participatory government - will have to find other ways to be heard. We have no doubt but that they will. by CNB
