HONORS AND AWARDS

Sandra Ferrebee, executive vice president and co-owner of GSH Residential Real Estate in Virginia Beach, has been named 1994 Realtor of the year by the Virginia Association of Realtors.

Ann Horchler of Virginia Beach has assumed the duties of director of rehabilitation services at Chesapeake General Hospital, a non-profit hospital. Horchler, who had previously served as director of rehabilitation services at Sentara Leigh Hospital, received a bachelor of science and certification in physical therapy from the University of Pennsylvania.

CDI Career Education Center is one of 983 schools in the nation chosen to participate in the Federal Direct Student Loan program beginning in the 1995-96 academic year. Under the new program the federal government will work through the selected schools to provide loans directly to their students rather than going through banks or other private lenders.

Jennifer Ladrillono, daughter of Curly and Nieva Ladrillono, has received a bachelor's degree in applied math from the University of Virginia School of Engineering. She is a 1990 graduate of Catholic High School where she was salutatorian and is employed with American System Engineering Corp. (AMSEC) in Virginia Beach.

Melinda Peebles and Terri Blaher, certified dental assistants, have passed the Certified Temporal Mandibular Dysfunction Dental Assistant exam given by the American Academy of Head and Neck and Facial Pain. Requirements for the certifications included extensive training in Washington and Dallas, as well as successful completion of an examination. Peebles and Blahar work for Dr. Jack I. Cherin.

Linda Pugh, a Virginia Beach resident and division manager with Lady Remington Fashion Jewelry, was presented with the Top Personal Seller award, Top Division Seller award, Top Division Recruiter award and a $2,500 cash bonus by John Kiple, president, and Victor Kiam, chairman of Lady Remington Fashion Jewelry, at the company's annual conference held in Chicago.

Jewell Marice Willis will be presented with a 1995 Ford Mustang by Nutri-Metics International. An executive sales leader with the company, Willis is being recognized for her group's sales and sponsoring achievements.

Ken Perry III, a sophomore at Virginia Wesleyan College, has been named chair of the Virginia Wesleyan ``Student for North'' organization. The political science major is a graduate of Cox High School and the son of Lind Holt and the late Ken Perry Jr.

Margaret Morton presented a workshop on ``Remarriage'' at the Widowed Persons Service 17th national conference sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons in Philadelphia.

Lin J. Smith, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce Group vice president of marketing, has been installed as president of the National Association for Membership Development at the organization's annual conference in Cleveland, Ohio.

William M. Furr was named Boss of the Year and Irene Diehl was named Member of the Year by the Virginia Beach Legal Secretaries Association. Furr practices in the labor and employment law section of Willcox and Savage. Diehl works in the law office of Jeremiah A. Denton III.

The Ramada Resort Oceanfront Tower received the Ramada Inn Food Service of the Year award, the chain's top honor, at Ramada's annual convention in Nashville. David Pender is the owner and Kyle Riley is director of food and beverage for the hotel at Oceanfront and 57th Street.

The Beach Health Clinic, Volunteers of America and Judeo-Christian Outreach Shelter are among 16 Hampton Roads health and human services agencies receiving grants from the United Way of South Hampton Roads.

Caryn Lindsay, Anne Lowery and Kristine Nagal, all freshmen at Longwood College, have been selected for the college's honors program. Lindsay, a graduate of Salem High School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Lindsay. Lowery, who graduated from Cox, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lowery and Nagal, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Renato Nagal, is a Kempsville graduate. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
