MARGARET A. BASS

Margaret Anderson Bass, 87, of the 3500 block of Galberry Road died Oct. 26, 1994, in a Portsmouth hospital.

She was a native of Portsmouth, a member of Indiana United Methodist Church, Chesapeake, and the Margaret Bass Women's Circle of the church which was named in her honor for her many devoted years of religious work there. She was past president of The Rebekahs, the United Methodist Women and Daughters of America. She was the widow of L.C. Bass, Sr., daughter of the late Benjamin Anderson and Ruth Barber Anderson, and was preceded in death by a son, Alvin R. ``Buddy'' Bass.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Bass Gifford and her husband Dick Gifford of Monroe, La.; a son, L. Clarence Bass, Jr. and his wife Kay Bass of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Katherine Lauer of Virginia Beach and Lorraine Walker of Norfolk; a sister-in-law, Alma Dalton of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Robin Bass Jarvis, Brian Gifford, Kelly Gifford Toney and Christopher Bass; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by the Rev. E. Clifton Whitlock and the Rev. William E. Kube. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
