David Carlton ``Buddy'' Cherry Jr. of the 1700 block of Mt. Clair Ave., a retired clerk, died Oct. 25, 1994, in a local hospital.

Mr. Cherry was born in Elizabeth City, N.C. He had been retired for 10 years from the state of New York after 30 years of service. He was the widower of Helen Cherry and a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a son, Len Reid of New York City; three sisters, Goldie Mapp of Portsmouth, Sarah Booker of Norfolk and Rev. Helen Penaflor of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, James Adlett of Norfolk and Willie Cherry of New York City; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Hale Funeral Home by Bishop L.E. Willis. Burial will be in Veterans National Cemetery, Hampton. Family and friends will assemble at noon Monday at 413 Avondale Road, Portsmouth, where they will also be receiving friends. Wake service will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
