Philip Rutledge Allen, 73, died Oct. 27, 1994, in his residence.
Mr. Allen was born in Detroit, Mich. He was a retired minister at Granby Street Church of Christ and taught science at Indian River Junior High School. He served ministries in Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, South Dakota and Michigan. He attended Freed Hardeman College, Pepperdine University and Southern Baptist Seminary. He was the widower of Dorothy Spain Allen.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Ann) Brown of Lottsburg, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Martha John of Paraguld, Ark., and Ms. Nancy Allen of Jeffersonville, Ind.; two brothers, Dr. William Allen of Paradise, Calif., and Dr. E.A. Allen of Jeffersonville, Ind.; grandchildren, Todd Brown and Meris Brown of Lottsburg, Va.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at Avalon Church of Christ by Minister James Bennett. Burial will be in Jeffersonville, Ind. Friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Northumberland Public Library, Lottsburg, Va. 22511.
