CRIME LINE

Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

NORFOLK

Police have identified a suspect in the Oct. 25 drive-by shooting of two teenagers. One injured teen later died.

Gregory J. Smith, 19, is wanted for murder, malicious assault and two counts of using a firearm in commission of felony.

The two teens were wounded about 10:15 p.m. in the 500 block of E. Liberty St.

James L. Gay Jr., 17, of the 1000 block of Liberty St. was shot in the head.

He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in critical condition and died the next day.

Albert Hodges, also 17, of the 1000 block of Mahone Ave., was shot in a leg.

The suspect is described as black and was 5 feet 8 inches tall. His last know address was in the 1400 block of Melon St.

Police need help identifying a man wanted for robbing at least six stores since July.

The businesses robbed included the Kentucky Fried Chicken, 3000 block E. Princess Anne Road; Miller Mart, 3502 E. Princess Anne Road (three times); Exxon, 4528 E. Princess Anne Road; 7-Eleven, 3235 Chesapeake Blvd., 7-Eleven, 2327 Sewells Point Road; and the Tinee Giant, 2833 Early St.

The most recent robbery occurred Oct. 23 at the Tinee Giant on Early Street.

The robber is described as black, about 30 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 160 pounds. He has short hair with gray on the sides and a mustache.

In each case, the robber has asked for a pack of Newport cigarettes before the robbery.

VIRGINIA BEACH

On Saturday, Oct. 8, about 10:30p.m., a 14-year-old boy was riding his bicycle with friends on Cypress Avenue.

When he tried to cross 22nd Street, he was struck by a small white pickup. The boy was knocked into the path of a car and trapped underneath it.

The pickup continued down 22nd Street and onto the Virginia Beach-Norfolk Expressway. The pickup is believed to have damage to its front end.

The teenager is still in the hospital suffering from a broken back and other injuries.

Police are seeking any information leading to the identity of the driver of the pickup.

Arrest warrants were on file as of Oct. 26 for the following people. Included for each is their name, race, date of birth and charges pending. Appearance on the list does not imply guilt.

Threat, Yoshida Marie - Black; April 28, 1975; abuse, child neglect, two counts of capias for failure to appear in court, escape from custody.

Harper, Byron Keith - Black; Oct. 28, 1956; six counts of forgery, six counts of uttering.

Turner, Robert Clifton Jr. - White; May 21, 1971; embezzlement.

Meadows, Donnie Joe - White; Nov. 17, 1972; indecent exposure.

Alexander, Izzard Charles - Black; Nov. 9, 1971; two counts of burglary, two counts of grand larceny.

McCluskey, James Satomi - White; Oct. 16, 1972; grand larceny.

HAMPTON

Since April 5th, the Disabled American Veterans thrift store at 4209 W. Mercury Blvd., has been burglarized three times.

On all three occasions, during the evening hours, burglars have forced open the side of the building. Thieves have stolen money and two safes.

PORTSMOUTH

On Oct. 15, about 10 a.m., a man approached the security door at Hagwood Cleaners in the 800 block of Frederick Blvd.

Under the pretense of picking up his grandfather's cleaning, the man entered the business. He then pulled a knife and ordered the clerk to open the register.

After taking the money, the suspect cut the telephone receiver cord and then fled out the rear of business.

The suspect is described as black, in his 20s, 5 feet 7 inches tall, about 150 pounds and was wearing blue jeans, a dark jacket and a dark baseball cap.

Investigators believe this suspect may also be responsible for several other robberies that have occurred in the city. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
