Colin Gregor cannot play for the Hampton Roads Admirals until Nov. 10 because he was suspended during preseason practice, team officials learned Saturday.
In other player developments:
Team captain Dennis McEwen and forward John Porco were sidelined with injuries suffered in Friday's 6-5 shootout loss to Richmond. McEwen, on the 14-day disabled list, has a badly sprained ankle. Porco is out with a concussion but could play as early as Tuesday, when the Admirals visit Raleigh.
Forward Kelly Sorensen was activated from the disabled list and played Saturday.
Forward Martin Laitre, a rookie from Quebec, was waived.
Anthony MacAulay, a rookie cut during the preseason, was activated. The defenseman played Saturday for the Admirals.
The moves left the Admirals with 17 players on the active roster and 16 available to play.
Gregor, obtained in a trade from Richmond last month, reported Friday after being cut by the Canadian Olympic team. After a brief workout Saturday morning, the Admirals tried to activate him.
However, ECHL commissioner Pat Kelly said that under league rules, Gregor sit out at least 30 days after being suspended. Gregor was suspended because that was the only way the Admirals could hold onto his rights. by CNB
