In their regular-season finale, the Tidewater Sharks used two touchdowns by wide receiver Derrick Carroll to beat the Fredericksburg Generals, 28-8, Saturday night.
Carroll scored on a 31-yard run and 23-yard catch as the Sharks won the Mason-Dixon Southeastern Division Championship.
``I felt it was a big game and I had to do something. I show up for big games and when it counts I do what needs to be done to win,'' Carroll said.
Running back James Rogers had 167 yards on 22 carries including a 51-yard touchdown run on the Sharks' first possession in the fourth quarter. The Sharks' defense held the Generals (3-7) to six first downs and forced quarterback Mark Ryhanych into a 15-for-38 performance, including two interceptions.
``I thought we played super defense,'' said Sharks coach Red Stickney. ``We played like champions and that's what we are, champions.''
The Sharks (7-3) will have home advantage throughout the playoffs and should learn of their opening playoff opponent early this week. by CNB
