Anthony Webster was named assistant vice president for finance/comptroller with Norfolk State University. He will be responsible for managing all accounting and financial reporting to the university's vice president for finance and business, the university board of visitors, and other administrators.
Webster, a certified public accountant, has been controller with Meharr Medical College in Nashville for six years. He holds a master of arts degree in management policy and health care from the University of Pittsburgh.
Webster, 39, said ``learning the Commonwealth system of processing transactions will create a challenging environment'' for him since the process at a medical school was quite different. But dealing with people would be quite similar. Students, staff and faculty take the place of patients.
AUTOMOTIVE
Anzell Automotive Inc. appointed Arthur Beazley vice president of its newly created Big Al's Mufflers & Brakes franchising division for the state. Beazley will be responsible for the sales and servicing of the two current franchisees in Hampton Roads, and future sales and development of additional franchises in the state.
Beazley was an independent Firestone Tire & Rubber dealer in Franklin. Anzell was founded in 1974 as a Firestone outlet.
MANUFACTURING
Thomas J. Keenan was named senior vice president of manufacturing and quality performance with Huntsman Chemical Corp. in Chesapeake. He will serve as the chief manufacturing officer and provide corporate oversight and leadership for the manufacturing support areas.
Keenan, a mechanical engineer, was vice president and general manager with Mobil Chemical Co. in Houston, Texas. He replaced Bill Westendorf who became president of Huntsman Specialty Chemicals Corp. earlier this year.
Keenan and his family will reside in Virginia Beach.
MID-ATLANTIC
Benjamin P. Jenkins III, currently president of First Union Corp.'s subsidiary banks in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., will assume the additional title of chief executive officer of the three banks effective Jan. 1, 1995.
Jenkins has served as president of the three-bank unit since March 1993 when First Union acquired Roanoke-based Dominion Bankshares. He will assume the chief executive duties from Warner N. Dalhouse, who will remain chairman of the three-bank operation and its board of directors.
Patricia C. Barron, 51, vice president of Xerox Corp. and president of Xerox Engineering Systems, was elected today to the board of directors of Reynolds Metals Company, bringing board membership to 15.
Barron joined Xerox in 1979 and became a corporate vice president in 1984.
