A Moyock man injured in a one-car crash this weekend was listed Monday in stable condition at Albemarle Hospital.
Robert Vernon, 23, was charged with driving while intoxicated and not wearing a seat belt after his 1980 Dodge car struck a tree head-on in the Church's Island area of Currituck County, state police said Monday.
A passenger, Roy Evans Jr., 27, of Coinjock was treated at the Elizabeth City hospital and released, a hospital spokeswoman said Monday. No details of either men's injuries were released.
Vernon allegedly was traveling east ``at an excess rate of speed'' on N.C. 1142 about 1:30 a.m. Saturday when the car crossed a bridge and hit the tree, a spokeswoman for the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.
The two men were pinned in the vehicle for 40 minutes, police said.
