Arthur Roland Eure, 87, of the 1700 block of Beatrice Lane, died Tuesday in a Chesapeake hospital.
Mr. Eure was born in Norfolk and was the son of the late Arthur J. and Nannie Saunders Eure. He was the widower of Mary Hazel Eure. Mr. Eure was a retired civil engineer with 42 1/2 years of service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and was a former delegate to the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was a member of Norfolk Masonic Lodge (NU)1 for 54 years, Royal Arch Chapter, Elizabeth City, and Order of the Eastern Star, Hertford, N.C. Chapter. He was a member of NARFE and the alumni association of Old Dominion University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a graduate of the William and Mary Extension, Norfolk. He was an active volunteer at Sentara Nursing Center in Chesapeake.
Mr. Eure is survived by his and his widow's nieces and nephews, Shirley Henley and Doris Carlson, both of Norfolk, Adrien Breen and Richard Beasley, both of Richmond, Claude M. Owens of Chesapeake and Carlton Owens of Virginia Beach.
A funeral service will be held at Oak Grove United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. W. Roberts McIvor. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, on Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
