A Norfolk man was sentenced to 40 years in prison Tuesday in the slaying last year of 27-year-old Valerie Monroe.
Ryan H. Jones, 25, pleaded guilty in September to first-degree murder. He entered an Alford plea, which allows a defendant to admit no guilt but concedes that the evidence was sufficient for a conviction.
Jones was charged with fatally stabbing Monroe in the early hours of Oct. 28, 1993. Monroe, of the 1700 block of Selden Ave., was killed in the 1000 block of Mapole Ave. after an argument.
