The question Virginians should be asking is whether Oliver North can ever really represent us. The equation of the television era is:
politics (EQ) TV exposure (EQ) money (EQ) special interests
It doesn't matter that what TV tells us may be oversimplified or even outright misrepresentation. The more one exposes the public to a barrage of propaganda, the greater the likelihood of being elected.
Enter Oliver North, representative of the political right, a minority in Virginia or any other state. With abundant money, his campaign has been able to blitz the public for six months. Where did this record amount of campaign money come from? If the people of Virginia elect this guy, to whom will he be beholden? Not to the majority of Virginians, but to the right-wing fringe that financed the largest snake-oil sale in the history of American politics.
